Fans are responsible for approximately 23% of the world’s total energy consumption. Although increasing fan energy efficiency is the obvious solution, the authors discuss how improved fan selection, combined with fan energy efficiency will help achieve faster energy savings. ASHRAE began the process of defining the direction and goals of a program to reduce the energy consumed by fans in 2007.
