Maximize fire safety at extraction plants with the 2009 NFPA 36!

Trust NFPA 36: Standard for Solvent Extraction Plants, to mitigate the specialized hazards involved in extraction of oils from agricultural commodities, such as oil-bearing seeds, using hydrocarbon solvents. Make sure you're working with the latest rules involving:
  • Operations involved in preparing raw material (meal) for processing
  • Storage and handling of the solvent
  • Fire-safe design of the extraction facility and the process equipment
  • Means for conveying the oil and processed solids from the extraction facility
  • Conducting repairs when extraction equipment is operating and when it is shut down and purged of hydrocarbon vapors

Changes incorporated into the 2009 edition of NFPA 36 include:
  • A provision to allow electric space heaters that are approved for Class I, Division 1, Group D and Class II, Division 1, Group G locations to be used in meal preparation areas and in extraction process areas
  • Major revision to the drainage and spill control requirements in Chapter 7, particularly details of the oil/water separation sump
  • Revisions to process control systems
  • Adoption of several new and revised definitions
