This standard applies to one type of diesel fuel that is suitable for use in locomotive-type medium-speed diesel engines (Fuel suitable for high-speed diesel engines is covered by CAN/CGSB-3.517, Automobile Low-Sulphur Diesel Fuel for on-road (also called on-highway) applications and by CAN/CGSB-3.6, Regular Sulphur Diesel Fuel for off-road (also called off-highway) applications (Appendix B)).

This type of fuel may be suitable for use in other medium-speed diesel applications.
