Presents a study from the recent completion of a six-year 38 million dollar program of full scale fire tests conducted in an abandoned highway tunnel in West Virginia. States the study provides validation data of methodologies and criteria to be used in the design of tunnel ventilation systems. States the reports brings to view significant new data that will be included in the 1999 edition of the ASHRAE Application Handbook. Describes the test facility, a two-lane tunnel 2,800 ft (853m) long and sets out the test plan.
