The first attempt at low first-cost, near zero-energy houses (ZEH)was in June 2002 in Tennessee as part of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Building Technologies Program. The goal is to create technologies for low-cost net-zero energy residences by 2020. The initiative is to lead new homeowners and builders toward houses integrate on-site power.This article addresses affordable housing in a mixed, humid climate.
