Full Description

This product is a zip file that contains files that consist of PowerPoint slides synchronized with the audio-recording of the speaker, PDF files of the slides, and audio only (mp3 format) as noted.
This seminar focuses on methods, advantages and challenges of integrating capacity modulation strategies to improve seasonal performance or part-load conditions of HVAC&R equipment. Presenters focus on differing approaches at both compressor and system levels to reduce energy consumption while meeting the heating/cooling load requirements. Topics explore modulation of compressors (e.g., variable speed operation, two-stage, tandem, etc.), system integration and control, adaptability to new low-GWP and natural refrigerants and cold-climate operation.
1. Limitations of Variable Speed Predictions of Compressors Using a Variety of Modeling Tools
Craig Bradshaw, Oklahoma State University, Oklahoma City, OK
2. Compressor Sizing and Modulation Strategies for Residential Cold Climate Heat Pumps
Bo Shen, PhD, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Oak Ridge, TN
3. Comparison of Different Scroll Compressor Modulation Strategies and Estimation of the Seasonal Performance in a R410A Chiller
Sugun Tej Inampudi, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Champaign, IL
