About This Item

Full Description

This article describes a potential pathway for automating and optimizing the fuel feed to boilers as a function of the measured contemporaneous hourly outside air temperature in the area surrounding the building being served by the HVAC system. Implementation of such a system could result in a significant decrease in the emission of greenhouse gases—and in the incurred fuel cost for heating the building—while ensuring the comfort of the building’s occupants. Based on the current state of technology for boilers and the related control mechanisms, adoption of the proposed measures appears to be feasible for existing and new HVAC systems.
