Healthy and sustainable buildings are the talk of the building industry. But what exactly defines what a healthy building is? Experts from the fields of the built environment and indoor air quality, including researchers, policy makers, owners, designers, builders, building operators and remediation experts, discussed this and other topics at ASHRAE's IAQ 2007: Healthy and Sustainable Buildings conference in Baltimore, October 15-17, 2007.

Speakers and presenters at IAQ 2007 addressed what tools and metrics can be used to quantify buildings' health and sustainability and how indoor air quality can be certified as sustainable. Some other topics of discussion included green building rating systems and green materials labeling systems; IAQ problem prevention and mitigation; ventilation and health; personalized ventilation; materials emissions; IAQ in homes, offices, and schools; natural ventilation; and the development of an IAQ Design Guide from ASHRAE.
