HVAC systems and equipment have several different types of dampers for various functions, including return air (RA) dampers, outdoor air (OA) dampers, variable-air-volume (VAV) dampers, and face/bypass dampers. Of these, the OA or mixing dampers used in economizers in airhandling units (AHUs) and packaged rooftop units (RTUs) have the largest potential energy impact.
