Full Description

Preface

This is the second edition of CSA B127.3, Fibrocement drain, waste, and vent pipe and pipe fittings . It supersedes the previous edition published in 2018. The major changes in this new edition are the following:

a) revision to dimensioning procedure;

b) test sample clarification for cement quality test;

c) removal of joint tightness test;

d) replacement of bending test, lap shear test, and bend back test with glue adhesion strength test for fabricated fittings;

e) revision to conditioning requirements;

f) revisions to straightness, crushing, cement quality, and hydrostatic strength test methods;

g) additional sizes and revisions to the pipe dimensions;

h) additional sizes and revisions to moulded fitting minimum radius;

i) addition of general installation and additional information added for above-ground installation to Annex A; and

j) clarification of processing additives in Annex B. This Standard was prepared by the Technical Committee on Asbestos Cement and Fibrocement Drain, Waste, and Vent Pipe and Pipe Fittings, under the jurisdiction of the Strategic Steering Committee on Construction and Civil Infrastructure, and has been formally approved by the Technical Committee. This Standard has been developed in compliance with Standards Council of Canada requirements for National Standards of Canada. It has been published as a National Standard of Canada by CSA Group.

Scope

1.1 This Standard covers fibrocement Type 1 (Class 3000) and Type 2 (Class 4000) pipe and pipe fittings for installation in storm and sanitary drainage systems for drain, waste, and vent (DWV) inside and outside of buildings, above and below grade.

1.2 This Standard includes specifications for material, dimensions, crushing strength, chemical resistance, and joint tightness. Methods of marking to indicate compliance with these requirements are included. Recommended installation practice is given in Annex A. Suitability of material composition is given in Annex B.

1.3 The values given in SI units are the units of record for the purposes of this Standard. The values given in parentheses are for information and comparison only. All pipe sizes are shown as nominal pipe sizes (NPS).

1.4 In this Standard, "shall" is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the Standard; "should" is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; and "may" is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the Standard. Notes accompanying clauses do not include requirements or alternative requirements; the purpose of a note accompanying a clause is to separate from the text explanatory or informative material. Notes to tables and figures are considered part of the table or figure and may be written as requirements. Annexes are designated normative (mandatory) or informative (non-mandatory) to define their application.
