Full Description

This paper reports on conventional pressure filter-based systems when treating only for iron and manganese. For wells requiring treatment for pathogen control, SOV/VOC contamination, and/or taste and odor, oxidation/low-pressure membrane filtration provides a potentially viable alternative. Results of bench- and pilot-scale testing indicate that oxidation followed by low-pressure membrane filtration is effective for removal of iron and manganese from the UWI groundwater sources. Oxidation/low-pressure membrane filtration provides a physical barrier to particles including pathogens and is effective for treating groundwater under the direct influence of a surface water. When coupled with powdered activated carbon (PAC), the oxidation/low-pressure membrane filtration system can be used to remove SOC/VOCs and taste and odors. Includes 5 references, tables, figures.
