Little is known about exactly howfouling affects air-cooled condenser performance in residentialair-conditioning units. To study the effects of fouling in a lab, ASHRAEResearch Project 1705 created debris like what is commonly found in home airconditioners. With that done, researchers could predict how fouling wouldaffect new coil designs and more. The results were surprising.
