Full Description

A simplified building energy analysis method has been developed that uses an original computer program in conjunction with the overall building thermal resistance and capacitance generated by DOE-2.1D. A parametric study has been performed both with the simplified model and DOE-2. The changes in hourly thermal loads in two different building types due to changes in certain lighting parameters (energy density, scheduling, etc.) have been compared between the two programs. These comparisons show that the model agrees well with DOE-2 and thus is an accurate simulator of the energy performance in these two buildings. The results of the parametric study show that an increase in the lighting energy through the parameters tested creates a larger increase in the cooling load than the corresponding decrease in heating load.
