About This Item
Full Description
A program was conducted estimate the use and emissions of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) from large centrifugal chillers. The overall objective of this program was to develop a valid database to determine the amounts and sources of CFC emissions from chillers. The program was divided into two phases. This report summarizes the results from Phase I, a pilot survey to determine what data on chiller emissions is available. Phase II will be a follow-up program and its possible focus is discussed in Section 7.0 of the report.
The Phase I program was based on gathering data on a representative random sample of chillers and examining the effect of various chiller parameters such as age, type of refrigerant, and maintenance practices, on the use and emissions of CFCs. Emissions estimates generated in-this pilot study were compared to previous published results. Additional effort focused on developing a database from chiller service and maintenance records to identify chronic operating problems and potential sources of CFC emissions.
