Full Description
We present a toolkit and workflow for leveraging theOpenStudio (Guglielmetti et al. 2010) platform toperform daylighting analysis and optimization in awhole building energy modeling (BEM) context. Wehave re-implemented OpenStudio's integrated Radianceand EnergyPlus functionality as an OpenStudioMeasure. The OpenStudio Radiance Measure workswithin the OpenStudio Application and ParametricAnalysis Tool, as well as the OpenStudio Server1 largescale analysis framework, allowing a rigorousdaylighting simulation to be performed on a singlebuilding model or potentially an entire population ofprogrammatically generated models. The Radiancesimulation results can automatically inform the broaderbuilding energy model, and provide dynamic daylightmetrics as a basis for decision.Through introduction and example, this paper illustratesthe utility of the OpenStudio building energy modelingplatform to leverage existing simulation tools forintegrated building energy performance simulation, daylighting analysis, and reportage.
