Full Description

This paper discusses results from an investigation of both gas-filled and vacuum superinsulation and its use in new designs for refrigerator-freezer doors. Small composite panels that contain superinsulation along with polyurethane foam were used to study long-term reliability and heat transfer degradation and to evaluate three improved door designs for a representative refrigerator-freezer. It was concluded that it is technically feasible to significantly reduce cabinet heat gain using vacuum panel insulation.
