General biological principles and water treatment practices in conventional chilled loops are reviewed with respect to the application of the information to newer ice and chilled-water thermal storage systems. Experien, ces with bacteria, corrosion, and corrosion inhibitors are included for one thermal storage system. Recommendations for maintenance of chilled loops and thermal storage systems with respect to water treatment and microbial control are included.
