Full Description

Whole-building simulation models that are calibrated to measured data can be used to evaluate the energy performance of a new commercial building. In this paper, a detailed as-built simulation is calibrated against measured data. Several significant factors were found to enhance the DOE-2 calibration for the case-study building, including: (1) Supply and outside air (OA) flow rates, (2) Building thermal mass, (3) Exhaust air flow rates, (4) Hot deck air temperature, and (5) Specific procedures for compiling synthetic solar radiation compared to measured data. In the final result, the as-built calibrated model for the case-study building was determined to have an overall daily 20.38% CV(RMSE) and a daily 0.63% MBE. In the companion paper, the calibrated simulation is used to evaluate the performance of the case-study building against several baselines (Song and Haberl 2008).
