Full Description

The equilibrium gas solubility, viscosity, and density of R- 134a in synthetic polyolester and polyalkylene glycol lubricants have been measured by an oscillating body viscometer which allows direct measurement of density and gas concentration at isothermal and pressure conditions. Specifically, the concentration of dissolved gas ranges from 2% to over 65% by weight in the specified temperature range of -25°C to 125°C, and within the highest pressure of 500 psia. The polyolesters chosen for this study were 32 ISO VG and 100 ISO VG branched chain polyolesters. The polyalkylene glycols chosen were a 32 ISO VG mono butyl ether and a 80 cSt polyoxypropylene diol.

The pressure-viscosity-temperature test plots of each lubricant are presented as its individual isothermal measurement temperatures, which detail the composition of the equilibrium gas solubility, vapor pressure, concentration as percent by weight, and viscosity in centipoise and centistokes. The raw data are presented in graphical and tabular form.
