About This Item
Full Description
This report summarizes the research performed to model the filling of rectangular storage tanks with particulate ice as produced by a harvesting type of ice maker and the melting of the ice with warm water. The models were developed for tanks with up to four randomly placed rectangular ice openings/ice harvesters. The melt water was modeled as either entering the top of the tank through the ice opening(s) uniformly per opening area or uniformly over the plan area of the tank.
The objectives of the research effort were to model the amount of particulate ice that fills a rectangular storage tank and to model the tank bottom perimeter exit water temperature with time for up to four rectangular ice openings with ice opening or uniform entering water distributions.
