Full Description

A method is presented to correlate experimental vapor-liquid equilibrium (VLE)data for different aqueous salt solutions. Log-polynomial expressions are used for correlation of the data. Up to five different curves may be used to fit the data over the entire range of concentration. Correlations are obtained for aqueous solutions of sodium hydroxide and a ternary nitrate mixture. The results show, from the percentage error in predicting VLE data, that this technique is more accurate than existing methods. Error in correlating vapor pressure and saturation temperature for water is extremely low, the averagee error being less than 0.1%. The crystallization curve is also obtained for sodium hydroxide-water solution. A general computer program is developed to compute the coefficients for all the necessary equations. These equations are important in predicting VLE data required as input for an absorption heat pump simulation program. Specific results for NaOH and ternary nitrate solutions are also presented.
