NFPA 35 provides requirements for fire-safe design and operation of facilities that manufacture organic chemical-based coatings such as paints and inks.

The 2005 edition contains the following changes:

  • New criteria for electrical area classification specific to organic coatings manufacture
  • New requirements for "hotboxes" (drum heating enclosures)
  • Revised handling requirements for nitrocellulose
  • Clarification of requirements related to load-bearing supports for process vessels and to building heating systems
  • Editorial and format changes that facilitate easier comprehension and application
