Improve on-the-job safety for fire services and emergency services personnel by complying with NFPA 1975.

Firefighters and emergency services personnel face countless occupational hazards. Don't let their clothing add to the risks. NFPA 1975: Standard on Emergency Services Work Clothing Elements provides the standard for work apparel specifically designed to withstand the effects of heat.

NFPA 1975 specifies the latest requirements for the design, performance, testing and certification of emergency services work clothing constructed from thermally stable or flame-resistant materials so that they won't cause or exacerbate burn injury. Emergency services work clothing includes non-primary protective garments configured as long- or short-sleeve shirts (regular, polo, T-shirt, sweatshirt), station pants and shorts. This category does not include underwear, socks, dress uniforms or outerwear.

The 2014 edition of NFPA 1975 features these updates:
  • New definitions for work apparel and work apparel garments
  • A reorganized Chapter 7 to clarify the base and optional requirements for work apparel
