About This Item

Full Description

The purpose of this study was to make in situ measurements of the heat loss and gain through floors above enclosed crawlspaces of residential structures. The study was conducted over a two year period in four homes with both insulated and uninsulated foundation walls. The results revealed that the heat loss through the floor of homes with R-7 insulated crawlspace walls was significantly less than predicted by a simple heat balance equation but significantly larger than predicted for the case of uninsulated crawlspace walls. The moisture content in the floor joists of the homes with enclosed crawlspaces was also measured and found to be inconsistent with current recommended expectations.
