About This Item

Full Description

New Mexico enjoys a generous supply of solar radiation throughout most of the year. Selection of design temperature data along with detailed infornetion on daily and annual patterns of solar radiation furnishes engineers with decision-making material. There is a need for residential design data in many small towns and summer mountain cabins in semiremote areas. The surrounding terrain produces important and unique airflow patterns during winter. Locations within the deeper mountain valleys may sustain temperature ranges from minimum to maximum of greater than 50F (28°C) during the clear sky and light wind conditions that accompany the coldest winter days. Locations near mountaintops and on slopes sustaining moderate air motion throughout nighttime hours will have warmer winter design temperatures than nearby mountain valleys. Snow cover is of primary importance related to cold extremes.
