Most retail grocery stores’ refrigeration systems run 24 hours a day, seven days a week, consuming one-third to one-half of the total electrical energy for the building. Integrating refrigeration and HVAC, two industries often thought of as technically separate and independent, could help reduce a building’s energy requirements and achieve higher standards for energy conservation.
