About This Item

Full Description

AASHTO CA01-5 provides a snapshot of the nature of work in 2019, with focus on the single-most important trend in work travel: the shift to nontraditional work. The goal is to help researchers and policymakers interested in quantifying the amount and type of changes in the U.S. workforce in 2020 and later. This brief explores the demographics and travel of workers in four types of non-traditional work: those who usually work at home, those who telecommute, those who have flextime, and those involved in contract or 'gig' work. Statistics with margins of error are presented at the 90th confidence limit (±10 percent).
