Full Description

Development of the Boise Warm Springs District (BWSWD) system is traced from its beginning in 1892 to the present. Lessons learned in its 100 years of experience with equipment and materials are discussed along with their impact on modern geothermal systems. Using the BWSWD system as an example, the limitations of early designs are identified along with the opportunities offered by new developments, such as injection, nonmetallic piping, controls, and metering. The future for geothermal district heating and other direct-use applications is discussed.
