Full Description

Studies have indicated that the use of mixed refrigerants in a refrigeration system may show certain performance advantages over pure refrigerants. Of the several binary mixtures possible, studies have been restricted mainly to R-12 and R-22 mixtures, and the data avai1ab1e are mostly in F.P.S. units. The thermodynamic property charts of these mixtures have been compiled in S.I. units. A comprehensive enthalpy-concentration chart has also been prepared which is helpful in determining the thermodynamic state of vapor and liquid phases when they coexist in equilibrium, e.g., during the boiling of liquid or condensation of vapor. Using these charts, a mixed refrigerant cycle can be analyzed. Illustrated examples have been included for a constant evaporating pressure of 1.0 bar and a constant condensing pressure of 14.0 bar.

The mixed refrigerant cycle has also been analyzed for several compositions between a fixed evaporator dew point temperature of 258 K and a fixed condenser bubble point temperature of 303 K.
