1 Scope

This clause of part 1 is replaced by:

This standard deals with the safety of electric commercial kitchen ma chines not intended for household use, their rated voltage being not more than 250 V for single phase appliances connected between one phase and neutral, and 480 V for other appliances.

NOTE 1 - Examples of kitchen machines are: - mixers; - liquid or food blenders; - kneaders; - beaters; - shredders; - graters; - mincers; - slicers; - peelers; - tin openers; - coffee grinders; - machines used for washing food; - portioning machines; - pastry rollers; - noodle strip cutters; - food processors.

NOTE 2 - These appliances are used, for example, in kitchens such as in restaurants, canteen, hospitals and commercial enterprises such as bakeries, butchers, etc.

This standard also applies to appliances which, in order to facilitate transport, are supplied in several parts (subassemblies) w hich, when assembled at the place of installation, form a constructional unit without the use of any additional parts.

The electrical part of appliances making use of other forms of energy is also within the scope of this standard.

So far as is practicable, this standard deals with the common hazards presented by these types of appliances.

NOTE 3 - Attention is drawn to the fact that - for appliances intended to be used in vehicles or on board ships or aircraft, additional requirements may be necessary; - for appliances intended to be used in tropical countries, special requirements may be necessary; - in many countries additional requirements are specified by the national health authorities, the national authorities responsible for the protection of labour, the national water supply authorities and similar authorities.

This standard does not apply to:

- appliances designed exclusively for industrial purposes; - appliances intended to be used in locations where special conditions prevail, such as the presence of a corrosive or explosive atmosphere (dust, vapour or gas); - continuous process appliances for the mass production of food; - independent conveying equipment, such as food distribution belts.

La presente norme traite de la securite des machines de cuisine electriques a usages collectif, qui ne sont pas destinees aux usages domestiques, la tension assignee des appareils n'etant pas superieure a 250 V pour les appareils monophases alimintes entre phase et neutre, et 48 V pour les autres appareils.

NOTE 1 - Comme exemples de machines de cuisine on peut citer: - les batteurs; - les melangeurs de liquides ou d'aliments; - les petrins; - les fouets; - les coupe-legumes - les rapes - les hachoirs; - les trancheurs; - les eplucheuses; - les ouvre-boites; - les moulins a cafe; - les machines pour laver les denrees alimentaires; - les portionneuses; - les laminoirs a pate; - les extrudeuses-coupeuses de pates; - les preparateurs d'aliments.

NOTE 2 - Ces appareils sont utilises, par exemple, dans des cuisines telles que celles des restaurants, des cantines, des hopitaux et des entreprises, commerciales telles que les boulangeries, les boucheries, etc.

La presente norme s'applique egalement a la partie electrique des appareils faisant appel a d'autres formes d'energie.

Dans la mesure du possible, la presente norme traite des risques ordinaires presentes par ces types d'appareils.

NOTE 3 - L'attention est attiree sur le fait que - pour les appareils destines a etre utilises dans des vehicules ou a bord de navires ou d'avions, des prescriptions supplementaires peuvent etre necessaires; - pour les appareils destines a etre utilises dans les pays tropicaux, des prescriptions speciales peuvent etre necessaires; - dans de nombreux pays, des prescriptions supplementaires sont imposees par les organismes nationaux de la sante publique, les organismes nationaux responsables de la protection des travailleurs, les organismes responsables de la distribution d'eau et par des organismens similaires.

La presente norme ne s'applique pas:

- aux appareils construits exclusivement pour des usages industriels; - aux appareils destines a etre utilises dans des locaux presentant des conditions particulieres, telles que la presence d'une atmosphere corrosive ou explosive (poussiere, vapeur ou gaz); - aux appareils a fontionnement continu pour la preparation en masse d'aliments; - aux equipements independants de convoyage, tels que les tapis roulants pour la distribution d'aliments.
