1. Scope

1.1

This Standard applies to cathode ray tubes and cathode ray tube assemblies (hereafter may be referred to for convenience as CRT) intended for use as components in apparatus designed to be used in accordance with the rules of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I and the National Electric Code.

1.2

These requirements apply to CRTs intended for use in such apparatus as electrical and electronic measuring and testing equipment, information technology equipment, medical equipment, telephone equipment, and television equipment, that conforms with the requirements applicable to such equipment.

1.3

This Standard is intended to apply only to those CRTs in which the face of the CRT forms part of the enclosure for the apparatus.

1.4

A CRT covered by this Standard is intended for use in dry locations. A CRT intended for use in other environments shall be subject to additional investigation.

1.5

A CRT covered by this Standard is intended to be installed in an enclosure designed so as to protect the various parts of the apparatus against mechanical or other injury to which they may be exposed under ordinary conditions, and to protect the use r against hazards (fire, shock, or injury to persons). These requirements do not apply to other possible risks of such equipment.

1.6

This Standard contains requirements for a CRT of 76 mm diagonal and larger that incorporates an implosion protection system that provides protection against the hazards of particles expelled forward beyond the face. There is no intended protection against particles expelled in other directions.

1.7

These requirements are also applicable to implosion-protect ed CRTs that have been in service and subsequently rebuilt or remanufactured.

1.8

A product that contains features, characteristics, components, mate rials, or systems new or different from those in use when the Standard was developed, and that involves a risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons, shall be evaluated using the appropriate additional component and end-product requirements as determined necessry to maintain the level of safety for the user of the product as originally anticipated by the intent of this Standard.
