Full Description

Preface:

This is the third edition of CSA Standard C22.2 No. 103 (now CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 103), Electric Fence Controllers. It is one of a Series of Standards issued by the Canadian Standards Association under Part II of the Canadian Electrical Code. It supersedes the previous editions published in 1954 and 1983.

This edition incorporates the requirements of Technical Information Letter No. 0-16, dated June 3, 1991, which specifies the requirements for double-insulated electric fence controllers.

Other changes in the requirements are to be found in Clauses 4.2.3, 4.14.1, 6.8.4, 6.9, and 7.2.2.

For general information on the Standards of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part II, see the Preface of CSA Standard CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 0, General Requirements - Canadian Electrical Code, Part II.

This Standard was prepared by a Subcommittee of the Technical Committee on Consumer and Commercial Products under the jurisdiction of the Steering Committee on the Canadian Electrical Code, Part II, and was formally approved by these Committees. It has been approved as a National Standard of Canada by the Standards Council off Canada.

Scope:

1.1
This Standard applies to electric fence controllers intended for use in accordance with the Rules of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I, on circuits having a nominal voltage of 120 V or less.

1.2
These requirements cover indoor and outdoor types of electric fence controllers that utilize either peak-discharge or timed-sinusoidal circuits to obtain the high voltage necessary to perform their intended function.

1.3
These requirements do not cover electric fence controllers of a continuous (uninterrupted) current type, electric fly screen, insect traps, or similar equipment; nor do they cover intermediate equipment such as converters, rectifiers, etc.

1.4
Requirements for battery-powered fence controllers are specified in Clause 7 of this Standard.

1.5
Requirements for double insulated electric fence controllers are specified in Clause 8 of this Standard.
