This standard contains requirements for the remanufacturing and reconditioning of steel and plastic drums for use in the transportation of dangerous goods. It provides non-mandatory guidelines for the sorting of used drums prior to processing and gives specific requirements for the remanufacturing, reconditioning, inspection, testing and marking of drums qualifying for reuse. Part I provides guidelines for steel drums and Part II provides guidelines for plastic drums.

This standard does not apply to drums larger than 450 L in capacity.
