About This Item

Full Description

Scope: This method provides for the accelerated laboratory evaluation of the leachability of waterborne wood preservatives expressed as a percentage of the original preservative retention. The small specimen size and high proportion of end-grain greatly accelerates leaching. Data derived using this method may be useful for estimating the long-term efficacy of preservative systems. This data is not intended to, nor shall it be used to predict potential environmental impacts of treated wood in service. This method is designed with waterborne preservatives in mind and may not be applicable to other types of preservatives. This test method is intended to provide information for standardization of protection treatments. It may also be useful as a screening test.
