About This Item
Full Description
This report provides practical recommendations affecting the safety of new and existing petrochemical and other industrial facilities during and following an earthquake.
Prepared by the Task Committee on Seismic Evaluation and Design of Petrochemical Facilities of the Energy Division of ASCE
Seismic Evaluation and Design of Petrochemical and Other Industrial Facilities, Third Edition, provides practical recommendations affecting the safety of new and existing petrochemical and other industrial facilities during and following an earthquake. In the area of new design, this book emphasizes interpretting the intent of building codes and gives practical guidance on design details and considerations, which are not included in building codes.
For existing facilities, evaluation methodologies based on experience from past earthquakes are presented with methods to address seismic vulnerabilities not covered by building codes. In addition, background information and recommendations in areas related to seismic safety, such as contingency planning and post-earthquake damage assessment, are included.
Based on Standard ASCE/SEI 7-16 and the 2018 IBC, this updated edition will be a valuable resource for structural design engineers, local building authorities, and operating company personnel responsible for establishing seismic design and construction procedures at petrochemical and other large industrial facilities.
