The different kinds of freeze-up problems in solar energy systems are outlined, and methods of few providing freeze protection are briefly discussed. These problems are illustrated by selected examples from the HUD Solar Residential Demonstration Program, which show the consequences and cost of freeze-up problems and the importance of protecting solar systems against them.
