Full Description

This paper presents a simplified method of analyzing the combined heat and mass transfer phenomena in a cooling tower.

The theoretical basis of this model is Merkel's theory, which assumes the tower to be a classical heat exchanger working in the wet regime. This exchanger is characterized by the global heat transfer coefficient UA. A correlation of UA is generated from experimental analysis in function of water and air flow rates entering the tower. The pressure losses are analyzed, and an attempt at relating them with the UA coefficient is also presented.
