Full Description

The empirical model of particle size distribution developed by Chen et al. (1995) was verified using new data of samples from two swine rooms. A total of fifteen models were tested using that data and the Marquardt nonlinear parameter estimation method (Bard 1974). The results show that the empirical model remains the best in fitting the data. The mathematical properties of the model were derived including the probability density function, the cumulative distribution function, the mean, the mode, the variance, and the standard deviation. The particle concentrations of the two rooms were different, but the parameters of the particle size distribution function did not vary significantly.
