Full Description

Proposes the maximum percentage of glazing to be used for the design of new energy-efficient office buildings in Montreal, presented in a form similar to the Alternate Component Package tables in ASHRAE Standard 90.1-1989 (ASHRAE 1989). A large number of simulations were performed, using the BLAST (Building Loads Analysis and Systems Thermodynamics) program, for five building models. The maximum percentage of glazing is defined first to minimise annual energy consumption and second to minimise the life-cycle cost. Finally, a comparison between the results from this work and values recommended by ASHRAE Standard 90.1-1989, as well as those from the law of energy conservation in Quebec, is presented.
