Full Description

An investigation of thermophysical and transport properties of oil-refrigerant liquid mixtures as possible bases for a real-time measurement of oil concentration is presented. This paper contains brief results of a literature survey encompassing several properties of oil-refrigerant mixtures. Descriptions of experimental procedures and results from laboratory measurements of liquid density, acoustic velocity, and viscosity in mixtures of refrigeration oils and R-113 are presented. Also included is a discussion of instrumentation that could be adapted to oil concentration measurement. Potentially successful oil concentration sensors, based on density measurement and acoustic velocity measurement, have been recommended for continued development.
