About This Item

Full Description

This article describes a study conducted by the authors designed to examine the relationship between concentrations of Giardia cysts, Cryptosporidium oocysts, and other microbial, water quality, and meteorological parameters in a surface water used as a potable water supply. Extensive sampling was conducted in 1996 at one location on the Delaware River at Trenton, N.J. Sampling was performed under a variety of meteorological conditions to determine whether changes in such conditions resulted in changes in the concentrations of any of the water-related parameters, including Giardia cysts, Cryptosporidium oocysts, and other microorganisms of fecal origin. Seventy-two parasite samples were collected. During parasite sampling, additional grab samples were gathered to measure concentrations of other microorganisms of fecal origin. The methodology and results of the study are discussed. Includes 51 references, tables, figures.
