Full Description

The objective of this project is to extend the utility of the simplified load calculation method that was developed under RP-138. The original simplification method used the transfer function method described in Chapter 22 of the 1972 Handbook of Fundamentals to generate cooling load factors for use in a "manual" calculation procedure. The results which were obtained were based on maintaining a constant room temperature, just as the Total Equivalent Temperature Difference method. Therefore, this extension seeks to develop factors that could be used to estimate pulldown loads after a shutdown of the cooling system. Another effect to be evaluated is the thermal storage capacity of a building when the room temperature is permitted to drift instead of being held constant.

An additional objective of this work is to compare the results of the cooling load obtained by this procedure to those obtained by other methods.
