About This Item

Full Description

General guidance regarding the design of ground level and upper level air intakes is provided in the context of different exhaust source types and quality of air required at a given intake location. Exhaust source locations discussed include rooftop, grade level, and adjacent buildings. Different concepts that affect the design of an intake system are discussed, including intake protection, intake sensitivity, design criteria, and acceptable levels of risk. A method is proposed to judge whether or not an intake can be considered protected. Based on these concepts, intake design recommendations are made to avoid intake placement that may result in undesirable indoor air quality.
