This SIN applies to all signalling and telecoms equipment which has or might have physical or wireless connectivity to the internet (e.g LAN, WiFi, public GSM), including the actual access point equipment which allows access to the internet. This includes but not limited to signalling and telecoms equipment located in:

a) ROCs;

b) Signal Boxes;

c) REBs (only those containing vital signalling equipment);

d) Operational locations.

Lineside equipment is excluded from the scope of this SIN as are SMART TD connections.

This SIN applies to all Regions and all currently live Projects.

Purpose

The purpose of this SIN to carry out a survey and correlate signalling, telecoms and building management system equipment which has or might have connectivity to the internet. This will then allow an assessment to be carried out to check and manage the associated risks with them being connected to the internet or take them ‘off-line’.

The survey and correlation will allow:

a) ownership of the equipment to be established;

b) identification of the access point equipment which is allowing external access to the internet;

c) identify what equipment is physically connected via an access point to the internet;

d) identify what equipment has the potential to be connected due to open access WIFI or 3G / 4G / 5G mobile network radio network connections;

e) determine what cyber protection is in place to protect the signalling / telecoms system;

f) identification of equipment being invertedly connect to the internet or for example, connected upon commissioning but now no longer required.
