Full Description

A study was made to compare the relative cORsumption of source energy between homes utilizing natural gas for heating and homes utilizing electric heating systems. The study was based upon a statistical sampling of single family dwellings in Salt Lake City area during the year 1973.. Homes were grouped into air conditioned and, non-air conditioned categories.

It is concluded tha.t total source energy consumption per unit area of home is less for a well-insulated, all-electric home than for a gas-heated home. Energy consumption for houses utilizing a heat pump system is less than for either the electric resistance or the gas-heated homes.
