This standard applies to boiled linseed oil, obtained by treating raw linseed oil with heat or suitable driers.

Boiled linseed oil may be used in the manufacture of primers, varnishes, putty and other protective coating materials. It can also be used for certain specialized applications such as lubricating metal anchor chains to prevent corrosion.

The testing and evaluation of a product against this standard may require the use of materials and/or equipment that could be hazardous.
