Full Description

This slide presentation outlines information on a cost benefit study of utility involvement in the total maximum daily loading (TMDL) process. Objectives were to: identify potential costs and benefits of proactive utility involvement in the TMDL process through limited literature review and through workshop breakout sessions; and, focus on studies that explored relationship between watershed management and source water protection. Selected case studies included: Protecting Sources of Drinking Water; Selected Case Studies in Watershed Management, published by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in 1999; Conserving Forests to Protect Water, published by Ernst, et al; Valuing Benefits from Watershed Management (Walkerton Inquiry); and, Costs of Water Treatment Due to Diminished Water Quality, published by Dearmont, et al.
