Full Description

As communities in the Southwestern United States begin the 21st Century, they are reminded daily of the importance of water to our quality of life. A couple of the driving forces that will shape water resource management practices in this new century are the trends for more and more stringent federal and state regulations, as well as the balance of meeting those regulations with the economic availability of future sources of supply. The Las Vegas Valley is gaining first hand knowledge on how to consider the balance of those driving forces and the effect they will have shaping their future Total Water Resources Management Strategy. Unprecedented growth in the last decade of the 20th century provided the opportunity to change the approach to water reuse in the valley. The result was the design and construction of three satellite wastewater treatment facilities: The City of Las Vegas's 10 MGD Northwest Water Resource Center and 1 MGD Bonanza Mojave Water Resource Center, and the Clark County Sanitation District's 5 MGD - expandable to 10 MGD Desert Breeze Water Resource Center. Includes figures.
