Full Description

Using the Garber-Wellington Aquifer in central Oklahoma as a prototype, the National Center for Ground Water Research conducted preliminary studies on how to gather data applicable to groundwater management. The preliminary study elements consisted of: the procurement of published information on the G-W Aquifer; contracts with federal, state, and local government agencies having responsibilities for or interests in the G-W Aquifer; solicitation of information on unpublished data relative to the aquifer; and literature searches of computer-based information storage and retrieval systems. These techniques will be useful in developing a national ground- water management policy as the second stage of this study. The final study is expected to incorporate data on the following: physical aquifer characteristics; water use and surface water availability; water quality and water quality problems; natural and manmade pollution sources; aquifer modeling; public participation; and aquifer management plans. Includes 3 references, tables, figures.
