Full Description

Faced with declining use and the loss of a major water customer, the Cudahy Water Utility automated its treatment plant to reduce labor costs. The control system is a polling type of SCADA system with the use of nonintelligent I/O panels. All control resides in the computer, which uses a multitasking operating system and a standard operator interface software package. This paper describes how the system controls raw water pumps, chemical feed systems, filters, high service pumps, and the security and fire system. The automation resulted in reducing the workforce by two.
